Yes, I’m on a music kick. After making a kazoo to annoy my brother with, Megan wanted to try making another instrument, so we sat down to make a harmonica using popsicle sticks.
Supplies:
- popsicle sticks
- rubber bands
- paper
- toothpicks
- scissors
- glue
Ready to make an instrument? Begin by cutting a piece of paper the same length and width as your popsicle stick. This will act as a reed inside the instrument. We used wax paper, since we already had it out from making the kazoo.
Next, cut a toothpick into two sections the width of your popsicle stick. You’re going to put one toothpick piece on each end of the popsicle stick and stick them down with a little dot of glue. Your paper strip can then be laid across the top of them.
Finally, lay your second popsicle stick on top, making a nice sandwich, and rubber band each end to hold it together.
Congratulations, you should now have a harmonica. Hold it to your mouth and blow gently.
Soon we will have an entire orchestra!
