This week I started our first Grade Level Challenge. Our fifth grade students will be designing Mars Landers to safely land people (a raw egg) on Mars (the playground after being tossed off the school roof). This is one of my favorite memories from elementary school, and I am excited to share it with my students now.
Their goal: Using their choice of 12 items from our materials table, build a lander that will safely land their egg on Mars. We’ve started the design and build portion of the lab, and once all classes have completed their landers we will host an Egg Drop Day and see how well they work.
My classes so far have been excellent. I have seen some amazing examples of teamwork, and a lot of thought has gone into the design process. I can’t wait to see the end results.
