I love fun foam sheets.  Thankfully, my dollar store keeps me well stocked with them.  This time, we used them in fourth grade to make 3D topographic maps.  They are VERY easy to make.  All you need are some foam sheets in different colors, scissors, glue, sharpies, and printouts of topographic maps from Google Images.IMG_20151021_144614210

The students started by choosing a map and cutting it out along the outer line.  They then put the cutout on the foam, traced it, and cut it out.

Then, they trimmed their paper map along the next line in, and repeated the process.

Each subsequent layer of the map was glued down, with each layer a different color.  When they finished, they had beautiful 3D topographic maps to display in the classroom.
