The STEM Lab is finally open for business this year, and we’ve been having a wonderful time with our activities.  Because the first part of class is taken up with my intro to the STEM Lab, I needed short, engaging activities for the second part.  Below are are pics of our adventures.

Fourth Grade

Fourth grade did the classic Marshmallow Challenge.  20 pieces of spaghetti, a yard of tape, a yard of string, and one marshmallow.

Fifth Grade

Fifth grade went crazy for the plastic cup engineering challenge.  The lab was filled with laughter, groans, and the sound of dozens of plastic cups periodically crashing to the floor.

Sixth Grade

Sixth grade did a lesson on parabolic curves.  I wasn’t sure how excited they would be about this lesson, but I was pleasantly surprised.  They went BONKERS over it.  At the end of the class, I practically had to pry them away from their projects…including the teachers!  I even had kids going to Google after class and searching for more templates to use.  This was my surprise success lesson of the week.

Special Ed

I wanted something fun and colorful for my special ed classes, so we went with the 3D Symmetry project.  The kids did a wonderful job, and we have our finished creations in the display case in the lobby.
