I have been on a mission to acquire Legos for the STEM Lab this year.  They are great for tons of engineering, math, and science projects.  I had a colleague donate some last year, but with over 600 students using the lab, I am always looking for more.  My niece Megan has been my lucky charm these past two weeks as we went on a mission to hit up thrift stores and Craigslist for Legos and similar building materials.  Actual Legos are hard to find, and expensive when we do, but we did manage to find some other fantastic options.

Our first find was a large collection of Lego Technix at a Goodwill.

Next up, a consignment shop for kids where we found this cool set of Uberstix for engineering projects.

Our second round of thrifting scored us this HUGE box of K-Nex for 35% off at Thrift Village!

Craigslist is also a great resource. For $20 we scooped up this giant bin of large Legos. What a deal!

Megan is a great helper for these scouting trips, and has a great eye for spotting goodies that I might miss otherwise.  She is now required to come with me on all my thrift store trips.

We’re still on the lookout for regular Legos, so if you have any you would like to donate, please let me know.  I’ll adore you forever!
