I am often faced with a dilemma in my life.  I am a computer junkie, but I also suffer from migraines which are exacerbated by long periods staring at my monitor.  When I start to feel that ache behind my eyes, I usually try to walk away from the computer for a while and do something else, but sometimes I’m working on a project that I just can’t walk away from.  What’s a gal to do?

This post comes about because I spent most of my morning and afternoon working intently on a redesign of the website that will (hopefully) be coming soon, and ended up ignoring the warning signs of an impending migraine.  Ouch.  After spending a few hours away from the monitor, it’s much improved.   What also helped was me finally remembering that I had a pair of Gunnar computer glasses downstairs.  I keep a pair at my desk when I’m at work, but had forgotten that I had a pair for home as well.  I don’t normally sing the praises of commercial items, but I know a lot of friends who suffer from migraines and eyestrain as well, and it can’t hurt to share my solution.

These glasses are great, they are yellow tinted and cut out a lot of the blue light and glare that can trigger my migraines.  Apparently they now also make them with untinted lenses if you do a lot of visual design on the computer and need natural color.  I picked up my pair at Best Buy, but you can also order them online.  If you need prescription glasses, they can make them for you.

Gunnars are more pricey than the cheap-n-cheerful computer glasses you can buy in Walgreens or Rite-Aid, but they are well worth it.  If you spend a lot of time at a computer, you may want to do your eyes a favor and invest in a pair!
